CENSORSHIP IN THE CHURCH

“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17

During the big war (WW2), the U.S. military would dictate that every letter that came from a solider or even news reporter, had to go through a clearance check before that letter or news wire made its way to its original destination. This was due to fears that the enemy might get news from someone openly discussing their location or directives. The old adage “Loose lips sink ships” reflected the obvious and it worked, although at the gruff of many a news reporter trying to get a story home.

Sadly it seems that we are seeing the same sort of censorship taking place in the church today. Not just the censorship of truth, but worse, the censorship of the Holy Spirit himself. It has become that in many modern churches, sound Biblical teaching, accompanied by the anointing of the Holy Spirit, is fast becoming a thing of the past in many churches across America. From the removal of the cross in the hymnals, to the removal of the cross in sermons, the pulpits of America have become laden with sermons about – nothing, and the silence is deafening. From messages that use to be soaked in such an anointing fashion, filled with messages that would convict a sinner of their sin and flee the wrath of God and hell fire, we’ve now replaced such messages with messages which speak about “other” things, from having our best life now, to how to receive a windfall financial return on a tithe investment. Today’s pulpit’s resemble more of a psychologist’s couch session, where the pew is now a comfort seat where all can be uplifted and challenged to gain a better quality of life, without the need of repentance, without the fear of hell, without the necessity of Biblical truth, we’ve censored the truth and embraced a lie. And a damnable lie it is.

The censorship that is taking place in the church today goes well beyond preaching, it goes beyond music, it goes beyond doctrine, but centers directly on regulating the spirit of God more than anything else. Religion has attempted to silence the message of the cross from the moment of Pentecost. Yet now, in the 21st century, we see a more aggressive approach to this message of Calvary and that directive is clear, anything BUT the cross! Be it works, false teaching, false prophecies, or Psychological doctrines of devils, those in power will have anything but the teaching of the cross and nothing but the cross. That is the censorship.

Still, that same censorship is coming in other avenues as well, from opposing those views against the mixture of law and grace where the emphasis is more on law and less on grace, but to a more tolerant view of immorality, especially homosexuality. Nothing speaks more clearly on this issue than the topic of same sex marriage, the fact is, no one dares mention this problem that is becoming more and more clearly in view in many large churches across the country. And still we see those in control attempt to silence by influence any voice which would attempt to alarm the body of Christ of what is happening in many church houses today.

I recall many years ago this trend when I found myself facing this same spirit. Twice I was confronted by leadership in their attempt to regulate the call of God on my life and in both cases I politely refused and parted company. Satan will never, if he can, allow a true servant of God to speak in a place where he (Satan) is controlling the environment, he’ll fight for control each and every time. But unfortunately for him, we have victory over the enemy, and rightly so.

Yet throughout the church world, there is a movement afoot to squelch any genuine move of God where religion has control, and it fits perfectly to scripture, as the apostle Paul made ever so clear in his letter to Timothy in which he stated, “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions. And will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4

We are seeing that occur right now in the rejection of truth for a lie, and that lie is coming in the form of popular preachers like Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer and Kenneth Copeland. Whenever people reject the truth and instead seek out something more soothing to the ear, which makes them comfortable in their sin or their lifestyle, something is wrong, and that something is a seducing spirit. This is what Paul warned us was coming and we are seeing the rise of this within the church today, anything but the cross. This is Satan’s goal, bring the church into confusion and thus making the body of Christ weak, succumbed to the modern teachings of the day. Yet God has a remnant, and that remnant is taking notice and not all is remaining silent, even in the face of opposition from others, especially believers, the rise of a strong body who is nearing the appointed time where they are going to confront these false teachers and their false message.

We must remember that because we are in the last days, many are going to oppose the truth of God’s word, many simply do not desire the truth, and they will dig their heels into the ground completely resistant to change. Yet the spirit of God is alive and strong and those who are willing to rise up and resist the wave of silence many within the church would try to bury, are going to overcome and make a stand, because I assure you, a more sinister spirit is lurking across this world and that spirit takes no prisoners, for it is the spirit of Antichrist and he is alive and well, waiting for his appointed time.
