“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” Proverbs 14:12

The apostle Paul outlined in Romans 10:9 how one must be saved, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Salvation comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. When we preach anything else as the means of salvation, be it by works or ritual, we preach another gospel.

Paul gave us a clear warning about this in Galatians 1:8 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” The fact is, anything other than Christ and him crucified, not water baptism, not a sacrament (communion), not by works, but by faith in Christ and what he did on the cross.

Justin Bieber, pop star and in recent weeks, troubled singer, has paid a heavy price for sin, and yet, in all of his desire to come back to his Christian roots, his attempts by way of finding a church to do a “cleansing ritual” shows how far one can come in their desire to be set free, the only thing wrong is, he’s going the wrong way. Sadly, Justin, like so many others, have allowed themselves to be swayed by a false gospel message, in that the only hope they receive to free them from the bondage of sin and wickedness is yet another gospel.

Hillsong Church, the popular mega ministry that originated out of Australia via Brian Houston is anything but a church dedicated to the gospel of Jesus Christ, actually, it’s central theme is not the cross of Christ, but a prosperity gospel, Psychological motivation seminars, where the concept of social justice, (the ability people have to realize their potential in a society where they live) is the gospel, but not one of denial of self, where one comes to a point of rejecting their past, rejecting their potential in life and accepting God’s perfect will, that gospel is not being presented because that gospel won’t sell.

This is the same false doctrine which is subtly creeping into the church via entertainment such as the Duck Dynasty craze that is currently sweeping the church, and it’s message is also another gospel. The gospel of Phil Robertson is the gospel of water regeneration (water baptism) and while Christians celebrate duck hunters, the truth is, another gospel is being incorporated into the body of Christ while the church sleeps. Recently the Robertson’s (Duck Commander) have announced spiritual teaching curriculum for churches (story here).

Why then do we see these things occurring? Because we are in the last days. Justin Bieber will never find the gospel that will set him free from the bondage of sin in a setting which is built upon another Jesus. Equally so, Justin will not find anything in a pool of water which will “cleanse” his soul, for it attempts to remove the only thing which can save and set the soul free from sin – the cross. We must remember 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”  The only thing which will satisfy the soul, in this case – for Justin Bieber, is the cross!

When the church loses this truth and attempts another means to present to the world another gospel, they not only lose their message, they lose the only true gospel message which has any type of genuine power. In our attempt to become relevant, we have traded the power of the Holy Spirit and the anointing all we have left is a message which cannot change the soul of man. Justin Bieber doesn’t need this message that cannot change the heart, he needs the message that can not only change his life, but change his entire purpose. That is the message of the cross, the only message which can change Mr. Bieber. Anything other than the message of the cross, is a message of despair and fruitless efforts, and sadly, in the end, the soul will perish.

Repent and come back to the cross.
