BREAKING THE POWER OF A GENERATIONAL CURSE

The Kennedy’s

No other family in American political history has seen more tragedies than that of the Kennedy family. Among their misfortunes: President Kennedy, assassinated in 1963; Robert Kennedy, assassinated in 1968; Senator Ted Kennedy, survived a plane crash and later drove off a bridge that killed Mary Jo Kopechne, thus ending his presidential dreams; Robert Kennedy’s son died of a drug overdose, his other son died in a skiing accident; People magazine’s favorite poster boy, JFK Jr., died in a plane crash (along with his wife and her sister) while he was the pilot (a hobby his mother begged him not to take up); and most recently, Mary Kennedy, the estranged wife of RFK Jr., hanged herself.

The 27 Club

Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Dave Alexander, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and, most recently, Amy Winehouse. What do the club members all have in common? They were gifted musicians who died at the age of 27. Robert Johnson (died in 1938 of an unknown cause), Brian Jones (1969, drowned in the swimming pool), Jimi Hendrix (1970, asphyxiated with vomit after having combined sleeping pills and wine), Janis Joplin (1970, heroin overdose), Jim Morrison (1971,heart failure) and Kurt Cobain (1994, suicide –when he was a child, he told his sister that he would like to join the 27 club). Though these artists are commonly included in the 27 club, the list of singers who died at 27 years old is much longer, including 40 other persons, who were not as popular as the ‘official members”. The most recent member of the club is, sadly, Ami Winehouse who was also 27 years old when she died, on July 23, 2011.

Curse of the Dragon

Bruce Lee, the famous Kung Fu martial arts fighter stated many years ago that he entered into a pact, a spiritual pact which enabled him to become the greatest martial artist ever known – and he was. The mysterious ordeal brought upon him a curse, and with any certainty it is that the curse killed Bruce, the curse was passed onto his son Brandon, and ultimately it killed him as well. On July 20th, 1973 Bruce was found unconscious and upon arriving at Queen Elizabeth Hospital was pronounced dead. Ironically, Lee’s own son – Brandon Lee, was killed in a tragic accident on a movie set on March 20th, 1993 – 20 years later. Both deaths remain a mystery to this day. Yet one thing remained clear, Bruce knew and understood the supernatural even though he, at many times, declared himself to be an atheist. Bruce spoke many times referencing about a 4th dimensional demon (or a watcher) who had been following him all his life until his tragic death. He (Lee) reportedly was photographed fighting a spirit over his own son – Brandon, in order to protect him from the “curse”.

The Onassis Family Curse

According to many when JFK’s widow, Jackie Kennedy married Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis in 1968 it set things into motion which propelled the family into a series of events which many claim came directly from Jackie from the past events of the Kennedy clan – a curse. According to them, that curse brought about the untimely death of Aristotle’s only son Alexander—he was killed in a plane crash in 1973.

Aristotle’s first wife (Alexander’s mother) killed herself a year after learning of her son’s death. She was followed a year later by Aristotle, who died a sick and broken man. Alexander’s sister Christina also died in 1988 of a heart attack due to depression. As for the once magnificent Onassis financial empire, that too crumbled away. The remnants were given to the last surviving member of the family, Christina’s daughter Athina. The heiress has so far managed to avoid the infamous curse, living in relative obscurity with her husband Alvaro Affonso de Miranda Neto and her two stepchildren in Brazil.

These are but just a few of many famous curses which have plagued families due to one common factor – sin. It must be understood by all that when one is not born again into Christ, the curse of sin and death remain upon the sinner, this allows Satan opportunity as well as right to inflict his desires, even the ability to kill, or steal, or destroy those whom he has legal claim over as found in John 10:10. The truth is, there is no protection to those who live in the world from the Prince of this world – Satan. The word says this in Exodus 34:7 “Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting (punishing) the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”

The facts are these, when we live outside the order of prescribed living which can only be found in Christ, we are subject to the penalties of sin and death (Romans 6:23). The answer? The cross. What breaks a generational curse? Nothing but the cross. Christ paid the debt of sin and death for us which breaks any curse upon our lives, past, present and future – “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” (Galatians 3:13). In Christ there is hope, in Christ there is freedom, in Christ there is protection. Yet out of Christ there is sin, death, the curse of the past sins of the Fathers upon those who continue to walk in rebellion.

Have you ever noticed someone, or a family, which was plagued from poverty? It seemed like they could just never get a break in life, not just them, but their offspring, their siblings, the entire family, at times, are cast into a sea of financial hardships. This is the result of a generational curse. I have seen families plagued by suicide, drug addiction and ultimately death where practically all of the children of that family died – a curse. For reasons that we do not fully understand, nor can we, there are families as well as individuals, who Satan has marked for destruction. As to why he has done so is not commonly known, but we know that many in the past, as well as in the future, have been marked by the enemy for certain destruction. I believe it has much to do with pledges and oaths by the past members of the patriarchs within the family dynamics who, for their own ignorance and greed, swear an allegiance to the devil for whatever they can claim while in this life – the selling of ones soul.

Again, let it be understood that there is only one remedy to Satan and sins right over a family and a person – Jesus Christ. Can there be found an escape? Yes, once again through the cross, “In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.” (Jeremiah 31:29-30) This proves that once we come to Christ and confess our sins, there is no more penalty, for we are new in Christ, old things have passed away (sin and curse) and all things have become new – 2 Cor. 5:17.

Not only are we new in Christ, but now we have authority over the enemy and his many demons which would try to hinder us – Luke 10:19 “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”  The facts are these, outside of Christ there is sin and the full penalty of the law, where one is subject to the enemy at will. But in Christ all curses are broken – at the cross. It’s the cross which breaks the power of sin, curses and the past bondage of who we once were. Never allow the enemy to bring up your past or your past failures, for you have now been redeemed by the blood of the lamb – Jesus Christ.
